Tromsø and Honningsvåg, midnightsun
From 26.05. – 28.05.2022 I made a short trip to northern Norway to visit the city of Tromsø, but also Honningsvåg with the North Cape. I took off from Düsseldorf on the evening of May 25, 2022 at 7.41 p.m. in the direction of Oslo, where I landed at around 9.07 p.m. The next day I left Oslo at 9.57 in the morning towards Tromsø, where I landed at 11.27 am. Both flights were operated by Scandinavian Airlines (SAS). The weather in the sky was realistic in the flight simulator, but in Tromsø there was still snow on the ground, which in reality was only higher in the mountains. In the afternoon of May 26, 2022, the flight continued by plane in a north-easterly direction. After taking off at 3.44 p.m., I landed in Honningsvåg at 4.11 p.m. In the night of May 27th, 2022, I made a first short bus tour to the North Cape, where I enjoyed the midnight sun with the other travellers between 10.30 p.m. and 12.45 a.m. But then clouds came up and it started to rain. On May 27th, 2022 I took off with a helicopter to explore the area. First I flew over Honningsvåg, then over Skårsvag and then of course over the North Cape. I landed there for a few minutes. Then I took a helicopter over the Knivskjellodden promontory, the northernmost point in Europe, before I went back to Honningsvåg Airport. Unfortunately, the weather was not ideal and it was often hazy. Luckily you could see everything. After this sightseeing flight, we went back to Tromsø by plane from Honningsvåg. I took off from Honningsvåg at 11.27 p.m. local time just to enjoy the midnight sun again on this flight. The golden yellow sun could already be seen at the airport and it accompanied me the whole time during the flight. Due to the partly existing clouds, the entire sky partly shone in this golden yellow color, as for example in the area of the North Cape. It was a beautiful mood with the midnight sun! After circumnavigating the North Cape 2-3 times, it went straight back to Tromsø. At around 1.09 a.m. the city came into view for the first time and I flew a small circuit over the city before landing. At 1.31 a.m. I landed with a sky that was almost as bright as day. In the meantime, the snow cover had also retreated into the mountains here in the flight simulator, so that I then made a sightseeing flight over Tromsø on May 28th, 2022. Between 9.30 a.m. and 10.19 a.m. I flew over the city and then landed on the Storsteinen to enjoy the beautiful view from there. In the evening we took the direct flight from Eurowings back to Düsseldorf Airport. The flight lasted from 6.16 p.m. to 8.55 p.m. It was a very nice (virtual) short trip with beautiful impressions of the far north and the midnight sun.
